Spanò Bolani Palace

Palazzo Spanò BolaniThe building, in part a private residence and the rest office space, occupies the whole block from Corso Vittorio Emanuele III and the roads via Cattolica dei Greci, via Miraglia and via Spanò Bolani. Designed in 1925, the first part of the construction was completed in 1927, while the elevation of the lower part was completed in the mid 1950s. The whole building is sited where the convent of Salesiani stood before the earthquake of 1908. Named Palazzo Spanò Bolani after one of the most important people of the city, a politician, mayor of the city and director of the city museum.

The architectural plan is of a basement level and three floors above ground with a rectangular layout with rounded corners and two internal courtyards.  The facades are  in a neo-renaissance style with elements of liberty style seen through the decorations with floral motifs.
The entrances are from via Cattolica dei Greci and via Spanò Bolani.  The external aspect is confused by the nature of the land. The basement level is treated externally with rustication in which the upper part houses arched windows with ironwork. The upper level maintains the rustication with parts intersected with visible brickwork. The top floor is characterized by the balconies with neoclassical balustrades with twin openings and single arches in order all of which finishes with linear cornices and balustrades.
