Carmine Square

Piazza CarmineOnce this was the southern entrance “door” of Reggio Calabria, through which Garibaldi‘s soldiers entered the town. The homonymous Carmine Church faces this square. Inside the church an altar dating back to 1787 is kept, whose style is baroque, decorated with green and yellow marble. Above the altar, which belonged to the cathedral destroyed by the earthquake in 1908, there’s a niche and a small temple where the wooden statue of the Carmine Holy Virgin is kept.
