Sailing, the Reggio Calabria sea that is the theatre of great emotions.
Reggio Calabria and sailing: an inseperable couple, a deep bond that warms the hearts of sportsmen and enthusiasts from every corner of Italy. They are, in fact, very strong emotions that will bring the waters of Reggio to life between late August and early September. A week in which the coastline stretching from Pellaro, at the southern end, to the city centre is literally invaded by over nine thousand boats coming from all over Italy, and about a thousand athletes, technicians, federal managers, supporters, and race judges. Five races will be the natural stages on which the best Italian helmsmen of the Optimist, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Tecno 293 OD, RSX Youth, O’Pen Bic, and Kite classes will be challenged.
The meeting of sailing schools
The public is fully involved, a strongly desired choice made by the FIV in close synergy with the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, with the aim of dragging the many visitors through the emotional vortex that this event is capable of provoking. For this reason, the competition fields will be positioned as close as possible to the coast. With the anticipated meeting of the Sailing Schools for three young students from each area, there will be the opportunity to take part in regional events, experiencing the unique experience of being in contact with racist peers and federal instructors.
Reggio and the sail
Site of the first edition of the AICO Team Cup in 1983, it has been the exclusive location of the Mediterranean Cup for 35 years, the international regatta of the Optimist class, and several Italian championships of the Optimist, Sailing, Laser, and 42.r.
The program
The opening ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, September 1st. Regattas will take place from Monday to Wednesday. The athletes of the Optimist Classes, Techno 293, and O’pen Bic will be involved. The President’s Cup, relevant to the RS Feva and L Team only, will be held in conjunction with the doubles Italian Youth Championships, scheduled in Bari, from September 6th to 9th.
